The Underdog

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” ~◈~ Mother Teresa

“Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ’em.” ~◈~ Shakespeare

We’ve all heard of the fairy tale stories of the Ugly Duckling and other stories and words used to describe one who is less than attractive and who is the underdog. When has the saying been more true to “never judge a book by its cover” in the debut of two British singers considered to be the underdog in a singing competition.

The world loves the Underdog.  Susan Boyle and Paul Potts – two people with a dream — each one, with a golden voice caused audiences to cry, and sent shivers up the spines of those who rolled their eyes and judged before hearing these incredible voices. The timing was right for the debut of both of these individuals to show the world who they are.

Susan Boyle reminds many of Barbra Streisand, Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s.  Those classic voices that we all love listening to and dream of having.  Those beautiful voices that take us into a higher level of consciousness.

Susan, at 47, never stopped dreaming her dream and has been singing since she was 12 years old.  Susan said “I’ve always wanted to perform in front of a large audience.  I’m going to make that audience rock,”  and she did!  That she kept singing and that she seized the window of opportunity for her to bless the world (us) with her golden voice is beautiful!

Paul Potts’s incredible voice has been compared with the classical opera singers Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli.  His powerful, evocative, emotion-filled voice brought tears, goosebumps and shivers up the spines of many a viewer – a voice which also brought a standing ovation to this salesman by trade.

We all get the chance to shine on the stage called “life”.  Few have the courage and belief they will get there and those who do — end up living in the spotlight of their dreams.

Susan Boyle and Paul Potts are wonderful examples of believing in their dreams. Dreams are the seeds we plant that ultimately become our reality and in order to reap we must plant/sow the seeds.

So if you feel like the underdog, or the odd man out – that you aren’t pretty enough, thin enough, tall enough, small enough, the right color, the wrong color, have a crooked smile, crooked teeth, big ears, small ears, or even big feet – it doesn’t matter.  It’s what is in your heart and your soul that matters.  God has plans for your life!

Do you know what your purpose and mission in life is?

Keep dreaming and dream big! Believe in yourself! Keep going! Keep the faith!
