Nutrition Help is on the Way!

What does nutrition mean to you?

Do you have healthy eating habits? Could you be eating healthier?

Is your children’s nutrition important to you?

Do you need nutrition help?

Do you feel healthy?

Are your Children healthy?

Are you healthy?

I will be writing more posts about each of these 6 categories.  In these individual categories, I will be giving you some insights and hints you may not have thought about when it comes to nutrition and healthy eating habits for you and for your family.

The 6 nutritious food categories of the Food Pyramid are:

Grains include wheat and rice, and they make up the largest portion of the pyramid with emphasis on “whole” grains over the refined products.  Whole grains are a most nutritious food source.

Buy fresh vegetables and always buy seasonal vegetables.  They will cost you less and they are fresher and will taste their best and are nutritious food.

Fruits always taste better when they are fresh and in season.  Frozen and dried fruits are the next best things, and these must be included in healthy eating habits.

The healthiest oils are those oils that are high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat and low in saturated fat.  These oils will be olive oil, and sesame oil.  Better nutrition foods that are high in oil are nuts, olives, avocados and fish.

Calcium is essential for maintaining and building bone.  Milk, cheese and yogurt are rich sources of calcium, potassium and Vitamin D.

Meat, fish and poultry are good sources of protein and also are rich in B vitamins, vitamin E, iron, zinc and magnesium.  Fish has the Omega-3 fatty acids.  Eggs are included in this category.

This is a balanced way of eating.  We all need these foods, but children, in particular, because they are growing, need the nutrition help in all 6 of these categories to be able to grow properly and to utilize their brains in school and to stay physically active and healthy.

I will be breaking down the Food Pyramid with nutrition tips so that it is easier for you to grasp the necessity of good nutrition and to show you that it is easier than you may think.
